ume.net: Living with Lag

In this documentary-style experiment for fiber network provider ume.net, our Swedish team helped to produce a VR ‘lag machine’ to let subjects experience lag in real life. Slang for delayed or disrupted connecting speeds, Living with Lag asks what reality would be like if it was like slow internet. By mounting a camera-equipped Oculus Rift on top of subject’s heads, the experiment let four volunteers experience the world with a short delay. The experiment demonstrates that even the simplest tasks become impossible when performed with lag. You wouldn’t accept to live like this — so why settle slow for internet?
